Where Ionic fits on a long engagement.

Ionic makes sense when the application is genuinely a web application that needs to be in the app stores, and when the team is a web team. Content-driven products, internal tools and forms-heavy line-of-business applications all fit that description, and for them the WebView cost is invisible.

It is the wrong choice where interaction fidelity is the product. Scroll feel, gesture responsiveness and animation smoothness in a WebView do not match native, and no amount of CSS closes that gap on a mid-range Android device. Choosing it for a consumer product that competes on feel is a decision that gets revisited expensively.

What an assigned team does with Ionic.

Most Ionic estates we see were chosen correctly for what the product was at the time, and the question years later is whether the product has changed into something that needs more. That is a periodic architectural review rather than a one-time decision.

Where a stack genuinely is the constraint we will say so, with a reason. Where it is not, the right answer is specialists who know what you already run rather than a migration nobody asked for, as set out in how we scope and assign.

What we use Ionic for.

  • A web application that needs store presence One codebase serving browser and stores, where the interface is genuinely the same product.
  • Internal and line-of-business apps Forms and workflow tools where delivery speed matters more than interaction fidelity.
  • Device APIs through Capacitor Camera, filesystem and notifications reached without leaving the web codebase.
