# WordPress.

WordPress is a content management system running a very large share of the web, extended through themes and plugins, and usable as a traditional site or as a headless content backend through its REST and GraphQL APIs.

## Where WordPress fits on a long engagement.

WordPress wins on editorial experience. Non-technical people can publish and manage content without help, which is the actual requirement behind most content projects and which bespoke systems consistently underdeliver on.

Plugins are the platform's main strength and its main risk. Each one is third-party code running with full privileges, and the majority of WordPress compromises trace to an outdated plugin rather than to core. A minimal, maintained plugin set is a security position rather than a preference.

## What an assigned team does with WordPress.

Update discipline is what keeps a WordPress site safe, and it is exactly what gets neglected once a site is delivered and the project ends.

Treating updates as a standing commitment rather than an occasional task is why maintenance is scoped explicitly, as set out in [how the monthly fee is built](https://azendo.co/pricing/).

## What we use WordPress for.

* Editors who do not need developers Publishing and content management without a ticket for every change.
* A minimal, maintained plugin set Third-party code kept few and current, since that is where compromises originate.
* Headless where the frontend is bespoke WordPress as a content API behind a custom application.

## How WordPress capacity is assigned.

Content platform work is assigned inside development capacity, with update and plugin maintenance treated as standing scope rather than a launch task.
