# n8n.

n8n is a workflow automation tool that can be self-hosted, connecting systems through a visual editor with the option to drop into code where a node cannot express what is needed.

## Where n8n fits on a long engagement.

Self-hosting is the differentiator. Where data cannot pass through a third-party automation service — regulated records, personal data under a strict interpretation, internal systems with no public endpoint — n8n runs inside your own boundary while remaining a visual tool.

The escape hatch into code is what keeps workflows from collapsing at the first unusual requirement. Most automation is straightforward until one step needs a transformation nobody anticipated, and a platform with no way to express that forces a rebuild.

## What an assigned team does with n8n.

Self-hosted automation is a small platform with the same obligations as a large one: upgrades, credentials, monitoring and somebody who notices when a workflow silently stops. Organisations adopt it for data residency and then run it unattended.

The hosting half and the workflow half are usually one assignment, with platform capacity under [DevOps managed services](https://azendo.co/services/cloud-and-devops/) where the instance is business-critical.

## What we use n8n for.

* Automation inside your own boundary Workflows touching data that cannot leave your environment for compliance reasons.
* Connecting systems with no public API Internal applications automated without exposing them to a hosted service.
* Workflows with genuinely custom steps Logic that no standard node covers, without abandoning the platform.

## How n8n capacity is assigned.

Workflow automation is assigned under [AI automation engineering](https://azendo.co/services/ai-automation-engineering/), running on your infrastructure.

## Roles we assign n8n for

Capacity is agreed as a committed monthly capacity across a discipline, not per skill.
