# Fivetran.

Fivetran is a managed data integration service that replicates data from source systems into a warehouse using pre-built connectors, handling schema changes and incremental loads without custom extraction code.

## Where Fivetran fits on a long engagement.

Buying ingestion is usually the right call. Connectors to Salesforce, Stripe or a production database are not where a data team creates value, and maintaining them against upstream API changes is a recurring tax with no upside. Managed connectors remove that entirely.

The trade is cost and control. Pricing follows rows changed, which can move sharply when an upstream system starts updating records in bulk, and a connector that does not do quite what you need is not something you can modify. The usual shape is managed connectors for standard sources and custom extraction only where there is no alternative.

## What an assigned team does with Fivetran.

Managed ingestion removes maintenance and adds a cost curve that nobody watches. Sync frequency set at adoption keeps running, an upstream system starts updating rows in bulk, and the invoice moves before anyone connects the two events.

Reviewing what is actually replicated against what is actually queried is the recurring work, and it belongs with whoever owns the warehouse — usually the same [data science](https://azendo.co/services/data-science/) and analytics capacity reading from it.

## What we use Fivetran for.

* Standard sources into the warehouse SaaS systems replicated reliably without anyone maintaining extraction code for them.
* Controlling ingestion spend Sync frequency and table selection matched to what is actually queried, rather than replicating everything hourly.
* Hybrid ingestion Managed connectors where they exist, custom pipelines only where the source is genuinely unusual.

## How Fivetran capacity is assigned.

Ingestion work is assigned under [managed data services](https://azendo.co/services/data-engineering/), inside your own Fivetran account and warehouse.

## Roles we assign Fivetran for

Capacity is agreed as a committed monthly capacity across a discipline, not per skill.

A service delivery manager replies with the disciplines we would assign, the monthly capacity and what the first month looks like.
